This restaurant in the west village was the first for Kurt Gutenbrunner. He has since opened Blau Gans, and is the executive chef at the Neue Gallery. The restaurant was designed by Constantin Wickenburg, using a rich palette of materials.
The lighting design of Grand Hotel by Jules Fisher in 1989, meant to evoke an earlier age of candlelight and beautify illuminated faces, was the inspiration for this space.
Custom designed brass shades and carbon filament lamps cast a soft glow. The same source is ‘pushed’ into a 3” deep by 4” square canopy allowing the light to peek out of the ceiling, allowing the back wall to be washed with light.
The whitewashed brick walls are grazed with low-voltage sources, adding definition.
