Daniel Boulud’s west-side hot spot was designed to be in the image of a cave with minimal intrusions for lighting. We created two slots for the lighting (which also contained egress lighting and HVAC) to illuminate the tables and wall art giving a presence to the ceiling so that it was not ignored was accomplished by an incandescent uplight between the banquets. The crushed stone wall panels were backlighted with halogen MR16 sources, giving a luminous glow and texture to the space.
